History

We launched our first savings challenge on Polygon in June 2021 as GoodGhosting. Soon expanding to Celo and the gradually releasing more challenge. In late 2022, we introduced the second version of GoodGhosting with more functionality and challenge types. Finally, in early 2023, we rebranded to HaloFi! The idea for HaloFi was born at the ETHLondon 2020 hackathon and revived during the summer of 2020 as part of Gitcoin’s genesis KERNEL program. Back then, HaloFi was still known as GoodGhosting. During KERNEL, the founding team formed and started working on the minimum viable product (MVP), while connecting with other builders, mentors and founders in the Web3 ecosystem. HaloFi was bootstrapped.

Since then, the HaloFi team has hit a number of milestones:

• Completed a public validation exercise as GoodGhosting [Q3 2020]

• Awarded an Aave Ecosystem Grant [Q4 2020]

• Ran three successful Gitcoin Grants fundraising campaigns [Q3 2020 - Q1 2021]

• Launched our first GoodGhosting MVP prototype on the Ethereum Kovan testnet, connected to a basic user interface for UX testing [Q4 2020]

• Awarded a MakerDAO grant by MetaGammaDelta [Q4 2020]

• Started open beta testing with an improved MVP prototype and user interface (Kovan) [Q1 2021]

• Took part in the 2021 Celo Camp accelerator program [Q1 2021]

• Awarded an Early Support grant by Polygon (Matic) [Q1 2021]

• Awarded a Wave 1 grant by The Graph Foundation [Q1 2021]

• Start of the #GalacticGhosts campaign in preparation for our guarded launch on Polygon [Q2 2021]: reaching 1500+ followers on Twitter and 3500+ users in our Discord server

• Finalist and Awardee in the Celo Camp Accelerator program [Q2 2021]

• Guarded launch with a limited number of users on Polygon [Q2 2021]

  • Over 1000 unique players joined one or more GoodGhosting savings games

• Partnerships with multiple online communities: BanklessDAO, SocialFi Alliance, Meta Gamma Delta and DeFi for the people [Q3 2021]

• Guarded launch with a limited number of users on Celo [Q3 & Q4 2021]

• Participant in the LongHashX accelerator program [Q4 2021]

• Over $1M worth saved through GoodGhosting [Q4 2021]

• Raised $1.25M seed round from strategic partners to scale up GoodGhosting [Q1 2022]

• Selected for Polygon's DefiForAll Reward Program [Q1 2022]

• Over $2.5M worth saved through GoodGhosting [Q2 2022]

• Over 10,000 monthly unique active users are saving through GoodGhosting [Q2 2022]

• Received a DeFi For The People grant by Celo [Q2 2022]

• Release of version 2 of GoodGhosting [Q3 2022]

• Over $3.5M worth saved through GoodGhosting [Q3 2022]

• Over 300,000 deposits made into GoodGhosting [Q4 2022]

• Over 15,000 unique players succesfully completed at least one GoodGhosting savings challenge [Q1 2023]

• Rebranded to HaloFi [Q1 2023]
